After choosing a land for construction, bhoomi puja is performed on that land to bring luck and happiness in the life of any individual. This pooja is believed to eradicate the ill effects and Vastu doshas in the land and pave the way for a smooth construction. It is performed in the northeast -corner of the land/site.

It is important to build the compound wall before constructing the house. The height of the south-west part of the wall should be higher in comparison to the other walls of the house. The east and north sides walls should be shorter than the south and west sides walls.

 After the selection of the construction site, one must grow plants on the land.Keeping a calf or cow in the land makes it all the more auspicious.
